Why

For centuries, girls have been told to hide this natural bodily process that occurs every once a month.

They are taught to "hush up" about it and that no one else wants to hear about it. The truth is, females shouldn't be ashamed to talk about natural processes that happen to their body. Having a period is natural and healthy.

The Reasons

Taboo

Throughout time, periods have been a hushed discussion. Hushed discussions lead to shame and embarrassment, along with the potential to mislead a large population. In this case, the whole female population. To break taboo, we need to talk.

Talking

Speaking about periods helps girls realize that their bodily process is nothing to be ashamed of. It also allows for girls to feel that if they ever need help in a situation, people will be there for them. They shouldn't have to feel afraid to get help.

Acceptance

Being able to own up to the fact that being a menstruating woman is an accomplishment, and with being able to talk with others who go through the same thing, acceptance of the good and bad moments of being a woman can be easier.

Awareness

Knowing that a problem exists is the first step to fixing it. Building a community that can spread awareness about menstrual health and hygiene can help the efforts of future generations. They shouldn't have to fight the same fight we do.
